While Sony is contemplating on the idea of a PlayStation 4 and Nintendo brewing up a storm with the Wii 2, there is no doubt that Microsoft will also be having plans of their own. Admittedly, all three manufacturers are very well in a state where the development of a new concept has become a habit – a habit that has led them to be recognized from the world over.
Sources indicate that the Xbox 720 will don an AMD 6000 series GPU, speeding past Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U by almost 20%. The said GPU was introduced last year and with the said application to the new Xbox, it will most likely be somewhat similar to the Radeon HD6670: DirectX11 support, multi-display, 3D and 1080p HD output. Graphics wise, the 720 is also reported to be six times greater than that of the Xbox 360. The idea of creating the Xbox 720 was actually brainstormed by the production team behind the Xbox 360’s success back in March of 2007.
Mass production of the GPU will begin to cycle by the end of 2012 and developers are set to be given their respective development kits on the system’s configuration come August. Its Kinect 2 integration was a no show as well as its estimated price.
