Now that we’re hitting CES, it’s normal to hear stories about possibilities and insider reports. One in particular is this scoop coming from digitimes stating Acer and Lenovo will be the first-tier companies that will launch tablets powered by Windows 8.
Just so you know, the much-awaited OS is expected to arrive as beta by the end of Q1 followed by its official public release later from that period.
Going back to the report, these Windows 8 tablets will be powered by Intel Clover trail platform and will have its release date on Q3 of 2012 (July-September). As the report suggests, the reason why Clover will be the leading platform instead of Medfield is because of the latter being eclipsed by ARM-based processors in terms of performance and power efficiency.
As early as last year, we reported the existence of Windows 8 slates and the way how it can compete with iPad more efficiently than Windows 7 since we all know the new operating system is built to support both PC and these so-called “post-PC devices” like tablets. Last August, we also heard a report that Microsoft is planning to unveil its self-branded tablet powered by the much-awaited OS adding more credibility to this report about the possible new generation of slabs hoping to inch that gap against iPad or Android’s army.
